چکیده

It is well known that hyperbolic frequency modulated waveform is Doppler-invariant. However it suffers severe distortion when the velocity of the target is not constant. In this paper we demonstrate that the acceleration of the target results in a frequency shift which is the source of the signal distortion under the assumption that the acceleration is constant and along the direction of the velocity. Therefore the frequency-shifted version of the matched filter can be applied to eliminate the mismatch between the reflected signal and the matched filter caused by the acceleration of the target. An example of rectangular envelope hyperbolic frequency modulated pulse is presented to illustrate the effect of the acceleration on signal distortion and a bank of filters with selected value of frequency shift are applied to the distorted waveform to improve the compression of the pulse. The simulation also illustrates that the noise performance of the pulse compression is not affected by the frequency shift scheme. © 2007 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

Doppler-invariant Property of Hyperbolic Frequency Modulated Waveforms

When a target has a large velocity, the Doppler effect is not negligible. In that case, pulse compression by means of a linear frequency modulation suffers from significant signal loss in performance due to the mismatch between the reflected signal and the matched filter caused by the Doppler distortion. This problem can be avoided by using a hyperbolic frequency-modulated waveform, which has t...

ISAR Imaging Based on the Wideband Hyperbolic Frequency-Modulation Waveform

The hyperbolic frequency-modulated (HFM) waveform has an inherent Doppler-invariant property. It is more conducive than the conventional linear frequency-modulated (LFM) waveform to high speed moving target imaging. In order to apply the HFM waveform to existing inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging systems, a new pulse compression algorithm is proposed. First, the received HFM echoes...

A novel Doppler-tolerant polyphase codes for pulse compression based on hyperbolic frequency modulation

The conventional polyphase pulse compression codes including Frank code, P1, P2, P3, and P4 code suffer severe signal loss in performance under Doppler environment. This paper proposed a new polyphase pulse compression codes which are conceptually derived from the step approximation of the phase curve of the hyperbolic frequency modulated chirp signal. Comparing with the above conventional code...

Delay-doppler Performance of Hyperbolic Frequency Modulation Waveforms

Doppler effect plays a vital role and cannot be neglected for high velocity radars. When the velocity between the target and radar is very high compared to the velocity of transmitted waveform, then the received signal suffers Doppler distortion and will not match with the matched filter. Due to this, linear frequency modulation waveform suffers from a considerable signal loss. Use of hyperboli...
